Canoso Ranch is located in Beavercreek, Oregon, about 30 minutes SE of Portland, and was formed in 2003 after we fell in love with Alpacas and made our first purchase of three greys. Greys are our first (but not only) love and inspired the name of our ranch; Canoso is Spanish for grey-haired.
Summer is on it's way and we had our first baby of 2009. He is a Dark Rose Grey we named Crispin and he certainly appears to be a future herdsire. We are looking for our next 6 new crias beginning in mid-July. We are planning on selling a number of our herd this year for the first time and will post information and pictures later this summer.

Crispin born 5-2009
We purchased a property that needed some TLC and a lot of elbow grease. First the pasture required the removal of 70-80 30' tall "Christmas" trees. The trees fell quickly under the bucket of a 30 ton track hoe and the trunks quickly found new homes. The limbs and stumps required a substantial amount of attention but perseverance paid off. A perfect spring and a lot of work finally allowed for discing and seeding and a glimmer of hope that our animals might soon come home. A new barn and completely re-fencing the pasture was completed in the fall of 2004.
We studied and did research and invested in top quality Alpacas based on input from many experienced and respected people. Quality over quantity is a good philosophy to learn early and we firmly believe it is the proper path to travel. We are now through our fifth year of breeding and looking forward to our new additons in 2009.
Our herd sire, Summer Son, comes from parents who always throw silver and rose grey. He is crystal blue color; no spots, very regal presence, and well conformed. His offspring have been either pure silver or pitch-black, nothing in between, with nice crimp and fleece character.
